Banggarra River House is situated 8km from Ravenshoe, on the road to the beautiful Little Millstream Falls and at the beginning of the Misty Mountain Walking Trails network.
Overlooking one of Australia's most well recognised icons, the name Banggarra was given to this place by the local Aboriginal Elders and means 'water story'. A beautifully written and illustrated hard cover book about the 'water story' is available for your reading.
The local landscape is open savannah woodland draped over ancient basalt outcrops, a legacy of the Atherton Tableland's volcanic past, and is in contrast to the lush rainforests only kilometres away.
Adjoining the 800 acres Millstream Falls National Park, Banggarra is set on 130 acres of pristine bushland and has approximately 1km of private river frontage with walking tracks and swimming holes.
Banggarra is a comfortable 2 hour drive from Cairns and you may choose to travel up the Gillies Highway through Malanda, or by the Kuranda Range through Mareeba and Atherton. From Mission Beach you can travel up the Palmerston Highway through Milla Milla. This is also a comfortable 2 hour trip and all three routes offer spectacular scenery.
Ravenshoe Visitors Centre is a very informative and impressive facility with an indigenous cultural centre providing you with local maps and information about attractions and events within the local region - www.ravenshoevisitorcentre.com.au.
